In
1985 Mike Alvarezs debut single The Night I Watched
You
Sleep received rave reviews. Ken Barnes in Creem magazine
called the single electrifying, a $40 record in
1996 so buy it now.
In 1987, Mike Alvarez began work on his second release.
Alvarez went into sessions at Schuyler Hupps home
studios Skysound. One of the songs Alvarez recorded was
a song written but never recorded by Roky Erickson. Erickson
was at the recording session and decided to lay down a
guitar solo on his song after Alvarez laid down the basic
track. The sessions were intended as a pre-recording,
a warm-up to going into the studio with a full band. When
the Erickson tune came out nicely, Alvarez continued to
record and ended up with Process. I titled the project
Process as the recordings were not complete. I intended
on recording the songs with Mike Buck (on drums) and other
musicians, but I guess I was lazy and felt it special
to release the material since Roky Erickson was involved.
Artwork was
created by syndicated comic artist Sam
Hurt (Eyebeam, Queen of the Universe). Hurt stayed
with the concept of work in process and the artwork was
intended to appear in process, incomplete.
